NEW YORK (Dec. 23, 2006) – No BCS controversy or photo finishes here. The two most talented fighters in the “ShoBox” super middleweight tournament will clash in the finals when Jean Paul Mendy faces Tony Hanshaw, Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast) from the Desoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss. Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and Round One Entertainment will co-promoter of the event.
Mendy and Hanshaw, in a tournament that offered two boxers in an international field of eight the rare opportunity to appear on national television three times in six months, were decisive winners in their bouts opening round and semi-final bouts. Each was triumphant by early-round knockout and lopsided decision.
