Memphis has been the home to high-profile boxing events including Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson, Tyson vs. Clifford Etienne, Roy Jones Jr. vs. Glen Johnson, Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver, and Winky Wright vs. Jermaine Taylor.
Now, it will serve as a participating city in the World Series of Boxing, an upstart boxing league featuring 12 cities around the world.
Memphis will join Miami, Los Angeles and Mexico City as the North America teams, which will compete against each other in a 12-match season beginning in November.
A news conference announcing Memphis as a franchise is set for Oct. 13 at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, with ticket information expected at a later date.
