Title Nat’l Championships to be Held In Ripley, TN
Ripley TN – Ripley High School will serve as host for the 5th Annual Title National Championships (June, 8-11, 2011).
With over 650 boxers and nearly 400 coaches and spectators, the tournament will general an estimated seventy-five thousand dollars in revenue for the HWY 51 corridor between Millington and Dyersburg.
Some of the nation’s amateur elite have competed in the Title National Championship’s which include novice, open and masters divisions. Sponsored by Title Boxing Equipment of Lenexa, KS, the tournament was founded in 2006 by Prize Fight Boxing’s Brain & Russ Young as well as boxing trainer John Bryant. Their goal—to get mid-south kids off the streets and into the gym where each is offered an opportunity to work towards competing on a national level. Many local amateur boxers lack funding to travel so having a tournament locally plays a significant role in resolving funding issues.
Many major metro areas have a boxing program for at risk groups which focuses on the same goal. Bringing a tournament of this size to the Memphis area will offer young, at risk kids an alternative to crime in the streets.
When asked how this years tournament would differ from the past 5 years Bryant stated, “This is the 5th year and all has gone out to made this year special with custom belts made by Title just for this Tournament. The belts cannot be purchased anywhere. The City of Ripley and Covington are planning to do magic shows and recreational activities for the boxers when they arent competing.
The 2011 tournament will be bigger than 2010 and will feature three boxing rings with fights beginning at 7pm nightly (a second session has been added for Friday June 10; first session – 1pm, second session – 7pm).
Tournament tickets are $10 per session, $15 for the finals or $30 for a event pass which includes all 4 sessions. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.thefightconnection.com using paypal or by calling 901-626-4920.
