V3 FIGHTS RESULTS

V3 Fights were fought in front of a lively, electric and packed crowd at Minglewood Hall Saturday night, September 22. JC Martin of MemphisMMA.com was there to report on the round-by-round action as it played out in front of him at octagonside.
Bout 1: Josiah Johnson (3-5) vs Chance Wilson (6-0)
Round 1: It would appear a good portion of the crowd is solidly behind the Hyperblend fighter Josiah Johnson. Johnson with an early triangle choke attempt from his back, but Wilson fights out. Johnson with another triangle attempt from his back, but Wilson drops hard punches and hammerfists and Johnson is out cold!
Winner: Chance Wilson by KO (Punch) 1:26 in Round 1. With the win, Wilson advances to the first ever V3 Flyweight Championship bout against the winner of the Ray Allard/ Devon Staggs fight!
Bout 2: Willie Taylor (11-5) vs Eli McGlothin (7-3)
Round 1: Both fighters come out swinging and counter takedown attempts. Taylor takes down McGlothin with a beautiful flying armbar. McGlothin fights out of the armbar. These two gladiators are fast paced and giving it everything they have. Phenomenal first round of fighting.
Round 2: Again both fighters are swinging for the fences and both land clean, hard blows. Taylor gets McGlothin in the mount and lands some hard shots from the top before McGlothin is able to slide out and get inside Taylor’s guard. McGlothin appears to have trouble wrestling Taylor, but utilizes his reach in the stand up game.
Round 3: McGlothin lands and has Taylor in the clinch early and throws stiff knees. Both men simultaneously counter punch and now both are FIRING on all cylinders. McGlothin sticks Taylor with a hard combo. Both men appear gassed. McGlothin is taking out Taylor’s legs with leg kicks. Taylor attempts to wrestle but McGlothin is back up. Both men trading in the final seconds. The crowd has come unglued! There is the bell! Incredible fight from both warriors!
Winner: Eli McGlothin by Majority Decision
Bout 3: Ray Allard (10-2) vs Devon Staggs (7-10)
Round 1: Allard lands a hard leg kick to start things off. Both men dance around the octagon in the clinch. Hard takedown by Allard who moves directly into the mount. Allard takes Staggs’s back and gets the rear naked choke! Staggs taps!
Winner: Ray Allard via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 1:49 Round 1
-Ray Allard will face Chance Wilson for the first ever V3 Flyweight Championship!
Bout 4: Tyler Smith (9-8) vs Bobby Oller (5-2)
Round 1: Fighters spend the first minute feeling each other out before Smith scores a takedown on Oller. Smith landing body shots from half guard. Both men on their feet and Smith is hurting Oller with a bevy of hard shots to the jaw. Smith drops Oller and rains down a storm of punches to Oller’s face! Smith takes Oller’s back and Oller taps out!
Winner: Tyler Smith via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 2:22 in Round 1
Bout 5: Briannah Conatser (2-6) vs Mandy Polk (2-1)
Round 1: Both fighters connect on a couple of hard punches. Polk blasts Conatser with two stiff shots and Conatser walks away from Polk. Polk throws a concrete haymaker! Polk charges and lands a few more shots before the referee stops this one!
Winner: Mandy Polk via TKO (Strikes) 0:49 in Round 1
Bout 6: Brandon Pannell (3-4) vs Michael Bunch (7-2)
Round 1: This one looked personal before it got started. From our vantage, both warriors looked intent to take the other’s head off. Pannell and Bunch trade vicious punches before Pannell takes Bunch down. Pannell gets Bunch in the Guillotine, but Bunch escapes, gets the mount, and destroys Pannell with amazing ground and pound!
Winner: Michael Bunch via TKO (Strikes) 1:25 in Round 1
Bout 7: Law Purifoy (5-6) vs TJ Brown (7-0)
Round 1: Purifoy comes out swinging but Brown engages the clinch against the cage. Brown scores a takedown and takes Purifoy’s back. Brown has Purifoy in the Rear Naked Choke for nearly a minute before Purifoy escapes. Brown moves to the Arm Triangle and Purifoy is out! The crowd boos in disapproval. Purifoy is obviously a fan favorite.
Winner: TJ Brown via Submission (Arm Triangle) 2:57 in Round 1
Bout 8: Jimmy White (9-4-1) vs Tripp Carter (11-2)

Round 1: The crowd is fired up for this bout! Jimmy White receives a tongue lashing from the fans. The crowd roars heavily appearing to back Tripp Carter for this fight! Both White and Carter are FIRED up and cannot wait to get at each other! Carter refuses to touch gloves with White. White and Carter circle each other for a minute with the occasional lunging punch. White manages to land a few hard punches to Carter who does not flinch. Carter returns the favor. White and Carter slug it out as round 1 concludes.
Round 2: Carter extends his hand to touch gloves, but is refused by White this time. Round 2 is vicious as both men swing with everything they have. Carter rocked White early but could not finish him. White drops Carter to his butt with a punch as the clock expires!
Round 3: Again Carter and White are punching with all of their might. They want this fight to end via KO. The audience is chanting, “KO!” “TRIPP CARTER!” Carter busts White’s nose and lacerates his left eye. Carter scores a takedown at the final bell. Fight of the Night so far! Audience was on their feet the entire time!
Winner: Tripp Carter Via Unanimous Decision
Tripp Carter advances to fight the Featherweight Champion!
Bout 9: Bantamweight Championship, Marquese Branch (9-0) vs Daniel Pierce (8-6)

Round 1: The fighters trade kicks before Branch slings Pierce to the canvas. Pierce rolls Branch over. Branch rolls retakes the top. Branch lands a hard shot that brings blood from Pierce’s nose. Pierce is desperately trying to escape. Branch continues to land good shots from inside Peirce’s guard. Branch is dropping bombs and the blood is flowing from Pierce. Branch elbows the ribs of Pierce and there is the bell. Dominant round from Branch.
Round 2: Pierce swings and misses. Branch pushes Pierce against the cage before Pierce takes Branch down with power. Branch flips into side control. Branch takes Pierce’s back, slaps on the Rear Naked Choke, stretches Pierce out and Pierce taps! Branch lives up to the nickname “The Beast!”

Bout 10: Interim Light Heavyweight Championship, Mike Houston (7-3) vs Ryan Banks (10-2)

Round 1: Houston appears to not engage Banks in the stand up. Houston bum rushes Banks and drives him into a corner of the octagon. Banks delivers some stiff knees and Houston releases the takedown attempt. Houston lands two hard rights and Banks loses his balance. Houston tries again for the takedown, but Banks ends up on top. Banks lights up Houston and Houston doesn’t defend himself. Houston tries to get out, but Banks shoves him back down. Houston gets Banks in a Guillotine Choke. Banks escapes and throws some hard shots to Houston’s body. Banks looks exhausted as the bell rings.
Round 2: Banks with a judo flip takedown on Houston. Banks tries to pass through Houston’s guard, but ends up sticking Houston with a hard right hand before getting to his feet. Banks with a good right, left, right combo. Houston swings and misses badly. Banks is using his reach advantage to keep Houston away, and is landing beautifully placed shots. Ryan Banks dominates Round 2.
Round 3: Houston is the early aggresor as he tries to get Banks to the ground. Houston has Banks in side control and lands solid punches. Banks escapes into Houston’s guard. Banks gets up to force the stand up game. Houston misses with a right, and Banks lands one of his own. Houston with a Standing Guillotine attempt. He tries to take it to the ground and Banks escapes again. Banks lands three alternating shots to Houston’s jaw from inside Houston’s guard.
Round 4: Banks uses his reach to hold Houston at Bay. Houston attempts the clinch but Banks gives him a stiff knee for his efforts. Houston swings blindly, and Banks tees off on him for his troubles. Both men are gassed in the 4th of 5 rounds. Banks continually stops Houston’s takedown attempts. Houston gets Banks on his back, but Banks quickly rolls on top. Houston attempts the Kimora, but Banks escapes again. The referee stands up both men. They trade sloppy punches as the bell rings.
Round 5: The 5th and final round starts off with boxing from both men. Houston gets good shots in before taking Banks down with a judo flip. Houston has the mount, but Banks escapes into Houston’s guard. Banks drops hammers squarely to Houston’s nose and left cheek. Banks stands over Houston and connects on 7 punches before Houston can escape. Houston attempts an Inverted Triangle Choke, but Banks manages to get out. Houston moves directly into a Guillotine choke, but time expires.
Winner and the New V3 Interim Light Heavyweight Champion: Ryan Banks via Unanimous Decision

Bout 11: Interim Heavyweight Championship, Alex Hilliard (6-2) vs Jason Ostrowski (7-0)

Round 1: The much taller Ostrowski uses his reach and strength against the smaller Hilliard. Hillard rolls Ostrowski and attempts the Standing Guillotine. Ostrowski gets Hilliard on the ground. He pins down Hilliard and throws hard shots to Hilliard’s face. A cut has opened over Hilliard’s left eye. Ostrowski has Hilliards back and is dropping hammerfists to the side of Hilliard’s face. The ref pulls him off and it is over.

Bout 12: Welterweight Championship, Doug Larson (7-0) vs Ben Brewer (19-2)

Round 1: Larson tries unsuccessfully for several push kicks before Brewer gets him in the clinch against the cage. Both men throwing knees to the other’s inner thighs. Larson connects with a side kick as Brewer scores a leg kick. Clinch again against the cage. Both men again throwing knees. Larson lands a hard uppercut before the bell.
Round 2: Brewer tries for a Superman punch, but is met with a push kick to the mid-section. Larson takes Brewer to the mat and has half-guard. Larson locks in a Guillotine choke. Brewer is scarlett in the face, but escapes in the nick of time. Brewer is in Larson’s guard and connects with a couple of rights to Larson’s face before the bell.
Round 3: Brewer with the legtrip takedown on Larson that puts Brewer into half-guard. Brewer has the side mount and is looking to take Larson’s back. Larson eats a huge left fist. Brewer is merciless with punches from the top. Brewer retakes the mount. Brewer back into side mount and looking for the choke. Larson fights out and Brewer is forced down to half guard before mounting Larson once again. Larson is saved by the bell.
Round 4: Larson with a hard head kick to Brewer’s right jaw. Brewer gets another takedown on Larson. Larson tries for the Guillotine from the bottom. He has it locked in deep. Brewer is trying to fight out with body shots and eventually escapes. Brewer into side control and is attempting a Kimora Armbar. Brewer stretches it into a Straight Arm Lock, Larson taps and this one is finished.
Winner and Still V3 Welterweight Champion: Ben Brewer via Submission (Straight Arm Lock) 2:33 in Round 4

Bout 13: Lightweight Championship, Tyler Hill (10-2) vs Wade Johnson (16-0)

Round 1: Wade with a HUGE right hook early, but Hill recovers. Johnson is all over Hill landing massive right hands that put Hill on his butt. Hill with a thunderous takedown. Johnson has Hill in the Triangle Choke out of nowhere and Hill taps!
