Posted in 2010, Boxing News, Press Releases on February 17, 2011 by Champ
Salisbury, MD – Prize Fight’s Fernando Guerrero and Shawn Porter are no strangers to live television. These two young phenoms have been the most nationally exposed young prospects in the sport of boxing today. Therefore, it was a natural fit when ESPN chose them to be featured on the inaugural telecast of ESPN Friday Night Fights in 3D.

Friday Night Fights will originate from Guerrero’s hometown of Salisbury, MD where the NABF Middleweight Champion has become the #1 franchise in town routinely filling the seats at the the Wicomico Civic Center. Guerrero 20-0 (16 KO’s) puts his NABF title and his world ranking on the line as he meets the formidable challenge of Derrick “Superman” Findley in the 10-Round main event of the night. The Dominican born Guerrero has steadily climbed up the middleweight rankings with convincing wins over veteran journeyman Ishe Smith, tough gatekeepers like Ossie Duran, Michael Walker and Gabe Rosado. Conversely, Findley 17-4 (11 KO’s) has fought a tough road to this meeting with Guerrero. Three of Findley’s four professional losses were against top talent such as Super Middleweight Champions Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell and fellow rising middleweight prospect Matt Korobov. Like Guerrero, Findley also owns a convincing win over Michael Walker on his resume. Consequently, a packed house is expected at the Wicomico to support it’s hometown hero Fernando Guerrero. On January 29, Fights at the Fitz rang in the new year with six competitive bouts at the Fitz Hotel and Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Some of the fighters, meanwhile, got their own bells rung, as half of the fights didn’t go the distance.

The middleweight main event featured Dominic Wade (9-0, 7 KOs), named one of the top prospects for 2011 on ESPN’s “Super 25” list. Wade was already gearing up for an appearance on Friday Night Fights on February 18, but first he’d have to get past the more experienced Brian Norman (17-10, 5 KOs).

Wade began the fight briskly, and quickly found a home for left hands to Norman’s body, dominating the round, though Norman was able to land a quick combination just before the bell. Wade’s corner, sensing his early control of the fight, urged him between rounds, “Take your time!”
