With a card that included four title bouts and what was reportedly the quickest knockout in the history of the promotion, V3 launched 2013 with a bang at Minglewood Hall. Fighters would get their first taste of UFC action with special guest referee, Herb Dean, who worked all 12 of the fights on the card.

WolfPak MMA’s 10-0 middleweight Tyler Hill scored a two-punch 7-second knockout over Wes Sharp to seize the title. However Hill’s knockout wouldn’t be the knockout of the night. Those honors would go to 6-0 wrestler Jaleel Willis, who would clock Austin Parker (9-4) with 2:27 left in the second round. Willis would soften up Parker in the first round with two brutal takedowns. Parker would make a fight of it by almost locking in a triangle choke in the first round. Willis would use most of the second round to size up Parker before unleashing the knockout. Read more »

SHERMAN PREPARES FOR HIS TOUGHEST FIGHT TO DATE

Posted in 2013, From V3 Fights on January 18, 2013 by Champ

On January 19, V3Fights’ Heavyweight Champion, Chase Sherman, faces his toughest test to date as he takes on interim champion, Jason Ostrowski. Both fighters are currently undefeated, and after this Saturday night, only one fighter will leave with the gold strapped around their waste.

MMA is something that Sherman has always wanted to do. However, playing college football consumed most of his time. He admits that football is his passion, but knows that MMA is what he was made for. He feels that he is blessed with natural, God given ability, that he wasn’t blessed with in football.

He got started when he was attending school at Delta State. He was training with Jae Medders and Tyler Hill (also on this card) in a storage shed and they saw something in him and made him believe that he could be successful as a fighter. After leaving Delta State, he returned home to the Gulf Coast and began fine-tuning his skills with legendary heavyweight fighter, John Dixon, at Dixon’s Dungeon. Three fights later and he was holding the V3 belt.

Sherman won the title back in November when he defeated then champion, Jeremiah Trundle via split decision. Trundle was regarded as one of the best heavyweights in the southeast region and Sherman took the fight on short notice and was a huge underdog going into the fight. Now with a full training camp behind him, he is prepared for his toughest task to date when he faces 9-0, Jason Ostrowski. When asked about his upcoming fight with Ostrowski, here is what Sherman had to say: “For this fight I have prepared myself like none other. I have been working at Dixon’s Dungeon and cross-training over at Alan Belcher’s MMA Club. I have also gotten back in the weight room and I am being trained by one of the best strength and conditioning coaches on the coast, Logan Falo. I feel great about this fight. I know Jason has been training hard as well and is an amazing fighter with a 9-0 record and holds the interim belt. You can’t look past that, but this is the third out of four fights that I am fighting someone with a belt and an undefeated record. I have been there before. I can’t wait to see what happens. There WILL be fireworks!”

Get your tickets now! This is one heavyweight fight you do NOT want to miss!!!

This event will mark the first regional programming broadcast for V3fights with Comcast Sports South and Aggression TV.
