Round's one through five were much the same.
Fighting at close range Hubinger pressed the action and moved forward.
Thompson consistently found himself, back against the ropes, trying
to defend. As orders came in from his corner, Hubinger would act
them out as requested. Hubinger mixed things up with his creative
punching ability. One-two combinations followed by blazing uppercuts,
were thrown with grace but no mercy. The left eye of Thompson was
swelling from Hubinger's assaults. However, Billy Thompson was game.
He began to dish out some punishment himself in rounds six through
eight. Causing some swelling to the left eye and fore head of Hubinger.
As the fight moved away from the ropes and into the center of the
ring Thompson was able to land effectively. Going to the body to
take some wind out of Hubinger. Hubinger's defense softened in round
seven. Where Thompson had his best round. Big hearts and conditioning
played a large part in this bout. Both fighters were tired but continued
to fight their best fight. Thompson, who's left eye is closed from
swelling, counters Hubinger's pumping left rights with a left hook
up top and then an uppercut under the chin. Thompson and Hubinger
put on an action pack fight that went the distance. Judges saw the
fight 78-74 | 80-72 | 78-74. All for Adam Hubinger. He's record
improves to (11-0, 10 KO's). Thompson's record falls to (7-3,3 KO's).
In an explosive female jr. middleweight bout. Kim
Conners (2-1, 1 KO) from Little Rock, AK, won a unanimous decision
over Christy Nickel (7-3, 4 KO's) last night in a battle that wooed
fans over rounds. Both fighters had a large following in the crowd.
It was only Conner's third professional fight but she looked sharp
and her jab busted Nickel up from the first round on. Nickel's punches
slowed greatly after the first round either due to conditioning
issues or to the number of punches she had taken on the button.
It seemed that Nickel was always on the end of Conners snapping
jab. Conners began smiling in defiance at the bleeding Nickel in
round three and playfully skipped around the ring. Nickel wasn't
helping her situation with her lazy body and head movement. When
she did move her head, Conners would miss. In round six, bloodied
and beaten, Nickel continued to move forward and traded punches
with heart. It was her best round yet as she found some strength
deep inside.
Conners went on to win in decisive fashion. Judges scores were 56-55
| 58-56 | 58-56.
In a four round heavyweight bout, Adam "Bam Bam" Richards
(244 1/2 lbs.) scored his second consecutive first round Kayo and
fourth consecutive Kayo when the referee stopped his bout with Joe
"ToJo" Harris (203 lbs.) at 2:41. Richards, showed awesome
speed and power in this stoppage. "ToJo" stepped up from
cruiserweight to fight in this bout. Richards is now 7-1, 5 KO's.
In another 4 round heavyweight fight Charles Ellis (258 1/2lbs.)
knocked out "Big Ju" Julian Childress (334 1/2 lbs.) in
the first round of their bout. Childress was on the canvas a total
of 7 times in this round. Three we ruled knock downs.
Jr. Middleweight Marteze "Too Sweet" Logan (147 1/2 lbs.)
recorded a majority decision victory over Monroe, Louisiana's, Mikel
Williams (147 lbs.) after six. Both fighters looked good at times
in this bout. Each landing their own fireworks over the course of
the fight.
Light heavyweights Brian Norman (173 lbs.) took on James Johnson
(173 lbs.). Norman won a lopsided fight. Winning by unanimous decision
after six rounds.
