Bobby Gunn Speaks Out

In recent years the bully epidemic amongst school kids and beyond has grown exponentially. As this problem continues to escalate on an international level, former IBA World Cruiserweight Champion and current BKB World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Gunn has stepped forward to address the issue.

“Bullying has become a disease that is slowly killing innocent kids,” said Gunn. “Parents, teachers and authoritative figures need to be proactive in spreading awareness on how bullying can be dealt with the right way to ensure it does not progress to a deadly level. Although bullying is a disease, it can be cured.”

Things heated up Wednesday during a press conference for James Toney and Bobby Gunn’s upcoming April 7, 2012, IBA Heavyweight Title Fight at the Landers Center in Southaven, MS.

The tension began shortly after the first mention of Bobby Gunn as the Bare Knuckle Champion–at which Toney laughed loudly. (Gunn has been inactive from the squared circle since his title fight against Tomasz Adamek in September of 2009, a fight he lost due to a premature stoppage. Since, Gunn has stepped away from the gloved sport and has focused on the reemergence of bare knuckle boxing.) Read more »

WINS NABO JR. WELTER
TITLE OVER LOPEZ

Report By Michael Sheffield, Post Fight Interviews by Tracy Morin, Memphisboxing.com

The 10-Round NABO Jr. Welterweight Championship between Karim Mayfield  and Patrick Lopez was everything the crowd at The Fitz has come to expect over the event’s history. After a slow start, Mayfield (14-0-1 10 KOs) and Lopez (20-4 12 KOs) would open the third round wrestling into the ropes. Lopez would leave the exchange with a cut over his left eye that bled and threatened to derail the fight. However, his corner would do an outstanding job stopping the bleeding throughout the fight. July Fights at the Fitz!

Report & Interviews

Memphisboxing.com Report by Michael Sheffield,
Fighter Q&A’s by Tracy Morin

After a three month absence, Prize Fight’s Fights at the Fitz made its return to Tunica with a 5-fight card featuring promising newcomer Dusty Harrison.

The evening marked Prize Fight’s 92nd straight sellout at The Fitz, an accomplishment that has stretched over the last seven years. With any
luck, Prize Fight will have sellout number 93 during the next event October 1.

Dusty Harrison vs. Trenton Titsworth

Harrison (1-0), who stole the show during June’s TNT at the DCC event in Southaven would make his Fitz debut against Trenton Titsworth, who had at least a six inch height advantage. Harrison would show a desire to mix it up early with the rail thin Titsworth (who weighed in at 123 pounds, which was debatable).

Titsworth proved he can take a punch, as Harrison would land several hard jabs. However, the effectiveness of the punches may have been tempered by the fact that Harrison had to reach up to hit his opponent. Titsworth resorted to holding Harrison halfway through the fight, and that strategy would allow him to survive the fight and deprive Harrison of his first knockout, even though he clearly had his opponent in trouble quite a few times. Harrison would take a unanimous decision, 40-36.

IBF Title Eliminator

Lamont “Havoc” Peterson (28-1-1, 14 kO’s) looks to get back on the road to contention Friday night on ESPN2 when he faces Victor Manuel Cayo (26-1, 18 KO’s)  in an IBF Jr. Welter Title Eliminator at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV. Peterson is 1-1-1 in his last three fights. Most recently he fought now WBC Welter Champ, Victor Ortiz (Andre Berto, UD12) to a draw in December of 2011. Peterson’s undefeated record was broken in December of 2009, after a tough loss to Timothy Bradley in a fight for the WBO Jr. Welter Title. The eliminator would setup a fight against Amir Khan, who recently acquired the title from one Zab Judah (KO5).

Watch ESPN2 Friday night to see if Lamont will be the victor––verses Victor.
