Miami Gallos Seek Revenge and Begin 2011 with 4-1 Defeat of Memphis Force to Remain Undefeated at Home

(MIAMI, Fla.) An opening bout loss at home could not discourage the Miami Gallos as they reeled off four straight wins Wednesday night to earn the easy victory against the Memphis Force and maintain their undefeated home record.

The Gallos and Force squared off at AmericanAirlines Arena in the first World Series of Boxing (WSB) bout of 2011 and the Gallos were able to reverse an earlier season loss to the Force the last time the two teams met. Once again, the home team was dominant in their home ring, a common theme throughout the first four weeks of the season, with the home team losing just once in nine contests thus far.

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) Week four of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Americas is upon us and features team rematches from week three of the season and the WSB debuts for six new boxers. All four Americas franchises will look to close out the first third of the season with a victory and build momentum for when boxing resumes for week five beginning January 5.

This week’s home teams, the Memphis Force and the Mexico City Guerreros, will be looking to exact some revenge upon losses suffered at the hands of the Los Angeles Matadors and the Miami Gallos last week. Meanwhile, both the Matadors and Gallos will be looking to break a visiting team skid for WSB Americas teams that now stands at six matches with no road team having earned a win away from home.

The Force (1-2) hope to even their record on Thursday, December 16 as the Matadors travel to Memphis for a rematch at the Desoto Civic Center in Southhaven, Miss, at 8 p.m. CT. (COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) Los Angeles Matador Russell Lamour (Portland, Maine) highlights this week’s photo gallery for the World Series of Boxing Americas. The strong left hand to the face of Memphis Force opponent Chris Jones chosen as the WSB Americas Photo of the Week is indicative of the type of action continually on display through three weeks of action in the WSB – fast, furious and jarring.

The Photo of the Week is taken from WSB Americas team photographers Hoganphotos and this week’s shot was captured by company founder Tom Hogan. Hogan shot this week’s photo highlighting action in the middleweight contest during action in Los Angeles as the Memphis Force faced off against the Los Angeles Matadors. Lamour got the best of Jones this time around both in the picture featured below and in the bout, scoring a unanimous decision, 48-47, 49-46, 48-47 and move to 2-0 on the young season.

Through three weeks, the Matadors lead conference play with a 2-1 record while scoring 11 wins in 15 bouts to date. WSB action continues Thursday, December 16 from Memphis as the Force look to avenge their 4-1 loss to the Matadors at 9:00 p.m. ET. The Mexico City Guerreros will host their second home match of the season one night later (Dec. 17) against the Miami Gallos at 10 p.m. ET.
